Board Chair Dr. James Ochuka - Medical Missions in Kenya

At HOPE, we have an amazing team of board members who not only work hard to promote our organization’s mission, but also do incredible things outside of the organization.  Board Chair James Ochuka is husband to Caroline, father to three children, a part-time pastor, and nurse practitioner at TotalCare.  If that weren’t enough, medical missions are one of the things Dr. Ochuka truly enjoys and has a passion for.

He has been involved in medical missions since 2009, and over the years has had the privilege of serving in different communities and alongside different organizations. On some occasions, he has even served in back-to-back medical camps, which is what happened again this year in his home country of Kenya.

This year, his first opportunity was with TotalCare Foundation in Eldoret, Kenya, also known as the “City of Champions,” a region known for producing many of Kenya’s world-renowned Olympic medalists.  Through a wonderful partnership between the TotalCare Foundation and Deliverance Church Eldoret, under the leadership of Bishop Dr. George Gichana and Rev. Euodiah Gichana, their team provided free medical services to more than 3,700 patients and dispensed over 10,000 prescriptions in just three days. They were also incredibly blessed to see approximately 2,500 people make commitments to follow Christ.

Immediately following that mission, he went to serve on another medical mission his local church, The Living Well Church. They partnered with Kahawa West Deliverance Church under the leadership of Rev. Kioko and the entire church leadership team.  During those three days, our team provided free medical care to approximately 1,010 patients, and saw 192 people make commitments to follow Christ.

Between the two medical missions, they served 4,700 patients over six days. James says, “For me, these missions are a constant reminder of the tremendous needs that exist in our communities, but also of what can happen when people and organizations come together with a heart to serve.”
